Nreal unveils a new mixed reality headset for business users, and it also makes its Nreal Light model available in several countries after its launch in Korea and Japan last year.
As of today, Nreal will expand Nreal Light to new key markets, including the EU and the US. The Enterprise edition makes sense because the technology is still quite expensive for consumers. Corporate customers, on the other hand, do not mind paying more for high-end mixed reality solutions, especially if it makes high-paid employees more productive.
The business headset is expected to launch in 2021. One of the sweet spots of mixed-reality technology, whether virtual reality or augmented reality, has been in virtual training, where the cost of making mistakes with very expensive equipment is not as high as they would be in the real world.
Asked about the timing of the corporate release, Nreal told VentureBeat that while Nreal Light offers a compact and lightweight form factor that resonates with consumers, corporate customers have also used these MRI glasses in conjunction with Nreal̵
It also debuts new content and technology partners, including Finch Technology’s FinchRing, a hands-free MRI controller. FinchRing is a new hands-free mixed reality controller with six degrees of freedom (6DoF) that offers full freedom of movement and seamless interaction with 360-degree spatial tracking. FinchRing works in or outside the Nreal Lights field of view (FoV) and can be used indoors, outdoors and in all weather conditions.
Last year, Nreal launched Nreal Light mixed reality glasses, with the aim of making augmented reality more accessible to consumers. In 2021, Nreal wants to bring mass adoption one step closer.
Nreal enters the fray with a new class of business headsets. The company launches a customizable and lightweight MRI headset that the company will showcase at Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2021.
Nreal Enterprise Edition comes with a long-lasting computing device and battery pack. Nreal Enterprise Edition has an enclosed halo design, and also offers a balanced fit from front to back. And for added convenience, users can also control their corporate headsets through eye tracking and motion detection technology.
The company targets corporate customers in industry, retail, tourism, education, logistics and the car market. Both the software and the hardware can be ordered.
Nreal said that the launch of Nreal Light in Korea went well, as it was launched in 20 LG Uplus stores in Korea, and has since expanded to 220 locations across the country. LG Uplus has also expanded its catalog of Nreal Light-compatible apps from 700 to 3000, as developers and operators support the mobile platform.
Users have spent an average of 49 minutes per day on Nreal Light. The top 20 users spend an average of 120 minutes a day. Nreal also launched the headset in Japan in partnership with KDDI.
Nreal Light will launch in the EU through a partnership with the region’s two leading operators, while it will launch in the US in the second quarter of 2021. Nreal will showcase new MR apps coming to Nreal Light during the Mobile World Congress. These include Tagesschau 2025, a weather app that beams a holographic weather anchor in front of your eyes; Dunkaar, a basketball game where you can shoot and dunk virtual basketballs; Dragon Awakening, a heroic fantasy online game; Magenta Sport, an AR version of football; and an MR version of the rhythm game Space Channel 5.
The company does not reveal the sale yet. Nreal has so far raised $ 85 million, including a recent round of $ 55 million. It has 250 employees.
