Nintendo announced that a new Switch OLED model is coming October 8, costs $ 350 USD. Although only a few months away, pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch OLED are not available yet, but listings are live on GameStop and Best buy, which indicates that pre-orders are likely to open soon. You can already sign up for pre-order email alerts at Best Buy, which is a smart thing to do if you’re planning to buy this console – it’s likely to sell out.
Two editions of the Nintendo Switch OLED will be available for pre-order. It is a white and black model with a white dock and Joy-Cons. Nintendo will also release a neon red and blue set with a black dock that reflects the original Switch form. Nintendo Switch OLED will be launched on the same day as the long-awaited Nintendo Switch exclusive Metroid Dread.
The updated switch has several new features, especially a 7-inch OLED screen. In addition to the upgraded and larger screen, the OLED Switch has 64 GB of internal storage, twice as much as the standard Switch and Switch Lite. It also has a wider and adjustable stand, as well as improved sound and a LAN port on the dock.
While the mentioned features are improvements on the original, the console does not have any performance upgrades. It will still run in 1080p resolution while docked, the same visual fidelity to the standard switch. It also has the same CPU and RAM, as well as battery life. Although the console is slightly larger than the original, it will still work with the launch model. All existing Joy-Con controllers are also compatible with the OLED model.
Nintendo has already unveiled a new official carrying case and screen protector combination for the OLED Switch. Although it seems likely that the current carrying cases will fit the new Switch model, cases with very specific form factors may not fit the OLED switch perfect. We expect a number of new third-party carrying cases to be released later this year.
