Nintendo Switch Error allows large upcoming games to be played early

Some users of Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite play NEO: The world ends with you, 10 days early, with permission from Square Enix. Over on Twitter, Wario64 reports that the Japanese publisher “accidentally” issued digital codes for NEO: The world ends with you, but only for the Nintendo Switch. As a result, some users of the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite have downloaded and started playing the game more than a week before its release.

At the moment of publication, others are reporting that this bug – which requires purchasing the game in the official Square Enix store – has been fixed, but right now this has not been definitively confirmed. If you are lucky enough to get a digital code, you can download the game and start playing it, put the Nintendo Switch in airplane mode or just disconnect it from the Internet. Otherwise you run the risk of this being reversed and your progress being wasted in the process.

It is important to note – despite what some reports claim – this does not work with Amazon. You can download the game in advance with the Amazon pre-order, but you can not play it early. So far, this is the only method that allows you to play the game early, although even this method may have been closed.

As always, we’ll be sure to update this story when and if more information comes in, whether it’s from trusted sources or from Square Enix itself.
