Nintendo has reportedly removed a number of DSiWare titles from the Nintendo 3DS eShop, without giving any warning to fans that the games will disappear.
The removals were first discovered by Twitter user @comeoutpunching, who reports that “all DSiWare games released before mid-May 2011 are disabled.” Games that are no longer available for purchase include Shantae: Risky’s Revenge, Asphalt 4: Elite Racing, Aura-Aura Climber, Dr. Mario Express, Mr. Driller: Drill Till You Drop, and many more.
At the time of writing, it seems that the removals hit North America the hardest; Delisted Games reports that most titles removed in the region are still available for purchase in Europe.
Showing some of the affected games in the eShop gives players a message that says, “This software is currently unavailable.” Given that Nintendo has not yet issued a statement regarding disappearing games, it is possible that this is a temporary bug that will be resolved – we will make sure to update this story with more info when and when we have it.
In the meantime, it probably won’t hurt to download any DSiWare games from the 3DS eShop while you still can, just in case. This digital age is scary!
