New Intel chips will make your laptop connected, work and play better

Intel adds six new portable CPUs in its series, announced the company at this year's IFA technology store in Germany. Three new U-series and three new Y-series processors go hand in hand with Intel's 8th generation Core i series. Earlier these chips were known with the code names Whiskey Lake and Amber Lake.

These are for laptops, tablets and two-in-one devices ranging from mainstream clamshells to thin, fanless design, and include support for integrated gigabit Wi-Fi, as Intel says is a first for this class of consumer -PC. These systems will be labeled as "Optimized for connection."

The six new CPUs are in the Core-M and Core-i families and include:

  • 1.1GHz Core m3-8100Y
  • 1.3GHz Core i5-8200Y
  • 1.5GHz Core i7-8500Y [19659007] ] 2.1GHz Core i3-8145U
  • 1.6GHz Core i5-8265U
  • 1.8GHz Core i7-8565U

By introducing the new CPUs, Intel says the goal was to deal with pain points like low battery anxiety. By encouraging additional power economies, newer laptops can turn up to 16 hours of battery life. The U and Y series can also provide enough performance improvement to convince people who stay in older computers to upgrade. Intel claims that there are a large number of users who still work with PCs over five years and that the newest 8-year CPUs can usually double the performance of the 5-year system.

Gaming anywhere

Intel is also focused on gaming, which is surprising as the integrated graphics chips in Intel platforms have not kept up with PC gaming needs over the years. For most players, low-priced laptops and desktops with Nvidia graphics hardware have as little as $ 799 filled out some of the performance gap.

But Intel says it will support casual gaming, which the company defines as games like World of Warcraft or World of Tanks. Even though these new CPUs do not offer any new integrated graphics hardware, Intel says that the overall efficiency of these chips, especially for laptops a few years ago, will provide smoother pen and ink performance and near real- hour 4K video rendering.

Look for laptops and tablets with these latest 8th generation Intel CPUs, which will be announced by IFA and shipping soon.
