Toyota has confirmed a launch date for its brand new Toyota Supra. One of the most sought after cars in the next year – and one with the most popular pregnancy – will be shown to the public for the first time at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, which runs from 14th to 27th of January .
In addition to confirming the car's public debut, Toyota added that it expects Supra to sell worldwide in the first half of 2019, priced at around £ 50,000. To mark the news, Toyota released a teaser image that looks over the new coupe's engine.

Toyota Supra Engine and Specifications
Speaking at Geneva Show, Supra Chief Engineer Tetsuya Tada said a front-mounted six-cylinder turbocharged engine driving the rear wheels was the configuration favored by owners and avicionados of previous versions of Supra. The engine is expected to produce approximately 300bhp and 470nm torque, enough for a 0-62mph time around five seconds.

Supra Promises To Be A Compromising Car. Tada described Supra, which has been benchmarked against Porsche 718 Cayman and 911, as a "pure sports car". He thinks it will be "quite different" from the upcoming BMW Z4, to which it is related. Both car's original concepts were visualized separately before the common parts were defined. Very few parts are actually shared between the two cars – including the engine and eight-stage automatic gearboxes. Both cars will also offer a 50:50 weight distribution.
While the prototype we tried featured an automatic gearbox, he revealed that a manual gearbox is still subject to internal discussions. He continued: "We are aware that it is a major fan base for the previous models around the world, so we made sure to interview them to hear their expectations and opinions before we started the project."
As a darling of the tuner scene, Tada expects Supra to be changed by owners to their own taste – although these changes do not come from Toyota, Gazoo Racing or their official partners. He went so far to say that Toyota "would not disturb" where modifications are concerned as previous experience points to what kind of "proper" modifications owners make to the GT86s.
Toyota's new Gazoo Racing team will play a major role in developing the new model. Tada said, "It's not our intention to change Supra but we have created a new brand for Gazoo Racing as part of the sports car offer. So from now on all sports cars we are developing and producing will be under this new brand." • The latest from the 2018 Geneva Supreme Racing Concept reveals new Supra details
The Racing concept from Geneva showed how a competition Supra could see and competed in the VLN racer series at Nurburgring Nordschleife earlier this year.
It uses composites for the front and rear bumper, front panel, rear diffuser, wing and hood while the windows are plastic. The suspension uses original equipment components, but has a reduced driving height above the wagon. BBS racing wheel with middle nut attachment hides Brembo Racing rings and is wrapped in Michelin racing tires.
Toyota Supra Specifications
While the production version of the upcoming Toyota Supra will still be revealed, some of the fuel details have already been leaked.
A scanned copy of Japan's best car magazine, posted on the VW Vortex Forum, suggests that the new Supra is 4.38m long, 1.86m wide and 1.29m high, with a 2.47m axle base. The six-cylinder variant is said to weigh below 1,500 kg. Earlier reports have suggested that a 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine will also be offered and shared with the next BMW Z4.
Insiders claim that the new Supra comes in four different melodies; like the basic Supra, a Supra GR, Supra GR Sport and finally Supra GRMN. Expect a significant gap in performance and price between the Supra and GRMN base, with variations in suspension queues as well as likely.
