More PlayStation PC ports are coming, but not at launch

Sony did not just decide to bring Horizon: Zero Dawn and Days Gone to PC and then give up, it turns out. Just after leaking their own plans for an Uncharted 4 PC port, the PlayStation folks are repeating their plans for computer ports. PlayStation Studios CEO Herman Hulst says that more is on the way – although you certainly should not expect these games day-to-day with your console colleagues.

“I want to emphasize that PlayStation will remain the best place to play our PlayStation Studios titles at launch,” Hulst said in a PlayStation Blog interview. With “best place” I think it is safe to guess that he means “only place”. He says that “releasing games on PC will not come at the expense of building an exciting selection of great console games.”

So do not expect the PC to be the primary place you will see Sony’s selection of first-party IP, but it sounds like we can continue to expect ports a few years after a given console game hits the market. “We value PC players,” says Hulst, “and we will continue to look at the right times to start each game. Bend Studio just released the PC version of Days Gone on May 18th. So it’s about two years since the PS4 release. ”

As part of this interview, Sony also stopped pretending that the new God of War will be released this year, so you can look forward to playing it on PC sometime in 2024 or later.

At the moment, the Days Gone port is pretty good, and there are plenty of upcoming PC games to enjoy if you’re not willing to dive into the PlayStation ecosystem.
