Monster Hunter World Review (PC)



Monster Hunter World is the first title in Capcom's popular action RPG series tailored to appeal to a wider audience, more specifically game audiences in the West. Despite having developed significantly over its predecessors, Monster Hunter World manages to retain the essence of the series. Collect loot from monsters to develop new weapons or armor and improve the statistics remains the core of the game. The latest iteration is more open in terms of design, and there is an undeniable sense of discovery when streaming the game world in search of new monsters. While multiplayer is a major feature of a game of this kind, there is enough single-player content in Monster Hunter World to last more than 30 or so hours for the main story alone. It's one of the finest Monster Hunter experiences to date, and has already received a successful launch on PS4 and Xbox One around 8 months ago. With the PC version, it's a bit more interesting to join the fire at Steam. There is a significant gap between the console and PC brothers release window, and one can expect a wealth of meaningful improvements for the latter.

In terms of performance, a PC close to the recommended system specifications gives you the ability to play the game at a stable 60fps with some tweaks to the game's extensive graphical settings. Particularly practical is the resolution calibration setting that can be used for performance and scale resolution under tax scenarios. The higher the frame rate makes wonders for Monster Hunter World's controls, which, as we pointed out our review for the PS4 version, often feels clumsy. As a result, battle on PC version feels more fluid and responsive, and thus more entertaining. Also, if you play on a 120 / 144Hz screen, the game lets you unlock the frame rate further. Similarly, arbitrary resolution supports you the ability to make the game to the original resolution on the screen. It's also nice to see that HDR support has also entered the PC version of Monster Hunter World.

One can not appreciate a waste PC port without achieving the implementation of its mouse and keyboard support. PC purists will be pleased to know that Capcom has done full justice to the combination of input devices, including both hotkeys and support for clickable user interface menus. Hotkeys are fully customizable, like the other control settings.

The PS4 and Xbox One versions have a radial menu for quick access to items with a controller. The same menu is available here for those who prefer to play the PC version with a controller. However, Capcom has also included another option for keyboard and mouse pointers, which allows you to bind the selection of these assigned items to a number of hot keys. These may seem like small alternatives alone, but when viewed as a whole, they make controls feel more intuitive when using a mouse and keyboard.

Another welcome change is to swap into the game Squad system found in console versions with full vapor integration in the PC version. Squads are really Monster Hunter Worlds view of the guilds. It's nice to see that Capcom went the extra mile to offer a more robust solution to Steam users, which makes it easier for players to hold on to each other on a regular basis.

] In terms of content, it's a bit disappointing to see that none of the content after release available for the console versions ended up being part of the PC version upon launch. However, Capcom has announced that these updates will be rolled out at a relatively fast pace. Therefore, PC players must wait a while before they can take Deviljho or Lunastra.

Another disappointment is that the graphic quality has not received a worthy upgrade over its console models. If you have already played the game on a PS4 Pro or Xbox One X, one of the two important improvements you can expect is a consistent 60 fps, which none of the console versions can achieve. The other important improvement is the PC version's reduced load times, especially if you have installed the game on an SSD. Console versions suffer from quite long load times and it is great to be able to go straight into the game without much delay.

Release of content after release at launch and lack of remarkable visual overhaul over PS4 and Xbox One versions are the only deficiencies in what else is a port that plays on the platform's strengths. There is much to praise beyond the obvious performance improvement, such as the intuitive mouse and keyboard support, a rugged Squad system and faster loading times.
