It has been more than a decade since Mercedes-Benz has stopped producing the venerable SLR camera McLaren, but the compressed V8 passenger compartment has never left any hearts.
Case in point: Georgi Bozhkov, which envisions a new SLR McLaren concept and posted unofficial reproductions via its Behance page. While his previous work from last year showed us a modern version of the Mercedes-dominated design, Bozhkov’s latest reception leans towards the front engine supercar more on the McLaren side – and it has the engine placed behind the seats. Take a look at the pictures below to know what we mean.
The rendering above shows the obvious – Bozhkov incorporated McLaren’s design language into a front engine setup (or so we thought). You can see the typical McLaren styling on the front of the front and headlights, while the roof, which is available for manufacturing Macs via MSO and Senna, has been added. This is our first hint that the engine on this rendering is on the back, despite the shape of the long hood and short tire.
On the side, we can not deny that there is a Dodge Viper atmosphere in there, but it would be difficult to miss the signature slats at the front screens, which are reminiscent of the original SLR camera. There are also three-point star emblems over the slats, which are probably the only Mercedes in this car.
On the back, further confirmation of a rear engine setup can be seen on the slated engine cover and exhaust pipes located high on the tail. This is one of McLaren’s signature layouts, with the exhaust outlets located next to the engine to shorten the pipes, ergo, and keep the vehicle’s total weight down.
If not the whole shape with long hood, rear engine does not make sense to you, do not worry, as this is just an imaginative impression. But hoping for the return of a McLaren SLR camera is not a bad thing at all, so here it is.
