London Spitfire is the first time OWL champion

The Overwatch League has its first champion.

After winning the first match of the Grand Final on Friday night, London Spitfire was in the top position to become Overwatch Leagues first champion who went into the end of the Grand Final on Saturday.

Spitfire needed to win another match to finish the championship. Philadelphia Fusion would have to win two matches right to overcome his deficit and win the best three of the series.

Match One

Map One – Junkertown: Philadelphia's crime broke out the gate with a heavy-screened bastion composition, and while London launched a battle, the merger could make good time through the first two parts of the map. But Philly was completely closed down in the last third of the map, with a highlight being Profit on Hanzo who delivered a beautiful four-drag Dragonstrike. On London's attack, Gesture on Orisa and Bdosin combined on Roadhog's abilities again and again to make a force to death to defend themselves. Philly's only bright spot was a three-kill Self Destruct courtesy of Poko, but otherwise Spitfire was just too much to handle.

Score: Fusion 2, Spitfire 3

Map Two ̵

1; Lijiang Tower: First at night market, London completely disassembled Philly, creates situations that force the Fusion teams apart and then exploit these situations by hunted the vulnerable Fusion members down. Spitfire closed Fusion in the night market and continued its dominance at the Garden. But this time, Philly managed to get a foothold on the goal. Carpe's Widowmaker made the difference, fighting past Gesture on Winston who tried to throw him into his own hub to land two headlines. Unfortunately, the effort was too small too late. Already up 99 percent, Spitfire only needed to win another match to both turn the point and take the goal, which ended up happening.

Score: Fusion 0, Spitfire 2

Map Three – King's Row: Philadelphia caught the first point after Carpe's Widowmaker became alive and landed some headshots. But the merger found it difficult to push ahead. Spitfire used Profit's Junkrat to annoy the merger flanking, and Bdosin also became aggressive on Zenyatta, and performed some flanks of herself. Philly managed to keep push alive through the second checkpoint thanks to the effective use of the two leagues that were ultimate in London's one and against all odds ended completing the map in overtime.

London's attack race was full of crazy ultimate combinations as well as good individual plays. For Philly, Carpe left not only on Widowmaker, but also on Doomfist, by all heroes. But the merger could not prevent Spitfire from pushing through to the end, buckling under attack by professionally placed ultimates.

Because both teams scored three points on their respective attacks, the map moved on to time-rounds. Because London was the only team to finish on time, they were given a second chance of attack and all they needed was a cross on point A to secure victory. That was exactly what Spitfire was able to do, immediately throwing out the merger and nabbing the first elimination. In seconds it was all.
