Google presented the Home Button together with Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL earlier this week, and placed great emphasis on the ability to use it as a smart photo frame. The device utilized the power of Google Photos with access to all your photos stored in the cloud to appear in a vibrant photo frame. However, the granular details around exactly how it would work and the different controls that would be available were not fully explored.
One of the best features of Google Photos is the ability to upload your photos automatically. Connect this feature with the ability to use these on a screen, which means your live photo frame now has instant access to each photo you take. The home button only works with Google Photos Live Albums, which automatically pushes your photos to your device to show you a still-tailored slide show.
AndroidPolice also discovered the opportunity in a Photos APK teardown that showed option n to just select specific people's faces to be displayed on the home button via the already-baked face detection. For example, just allow the home button to display images of the children in a particular room and you will be able to do this with the home button.
In addition to face recognition, Google will utilize its AI features to analyze unclear or just screenshots to filter them out so that you do not end a random screen of the home screen that appears on your home button. Google's Ian Lake has also confirmed that the Live Album feature by automatically tapping selected images to devices, will work with something using the Google Photos API. This means that in addition to the home button, any smart screen must also have the same functionality.
Live Albums are still in the Google Photos app, but with the home button ready to ship soon, we can expect to see an update pressed for the app immediately.
