While the original studio behind Left 4 Dead is making an unofficial sequel to Back 4 Blood, one of the Valve writers who gave L4D his personality is making a new collaborative monster-mashing shooter as well. Stray Bombay, the studio founded by former valve writer Chet Faliszek and former Riot designer Dr. Kimberly Voll, today announced The Anacrusis. It’s an FPS with four players aboard a giant stranded spaceship, and you can see a bit in the trailer below.
Monster hordes look a little tough, but hey, I feel hopeful. I like the spaceship’s decor.
So there you are, in a terrible place with your friends, pitted against a horde of monsters. An AI dragon monitors the action and spawns enemies, bosses and objects to challenge you. Which is a description of The Anacrusis that applies to Left 4 Dead just as much. It seems that it does a lot of that kind of thing, you know. Only this time there is a terrible giant spaceship filled with terrible space monsters, and you have weapons like space weapons and stasis grenades.
Sounds like they do a lot of work to help you play with friends. In addition to supporting multiplayer across platforms, The Anacrusis will also let players share unlock. That’s very kind.
They also note that mods support is planned, with the game due to launch with “a selection of mods created by members of the community.”
Anacrusis is set to launch this fall on Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as Xboxes.
Alice Bee spoke with Chet and Kimberley back in 2019, who at the time were unclear about what they were making, but discussed the ideas behind their work.
