Prior to CES 2019, Dell introduced its new Latitude 7400 2-in-1 convertible notebook that provides high portability, rich set and extremely long life. One of the main features of the new hybrid notebook is the ExpressSign-In feature that records the owner's presence and logs them in automatically. More details below.
The Dell Latitude 7400 2-in-1 comes in a CNC aluminum unibody chassis with a 14.89 mm z-height, a weight starting with 1.36 kg, and very narrow screen frames that have enabled Dell to install a 14 inch full HD display in a highly portable cabinet. The "Super Low Power" 10-point touch screen has a 300 nits brightness and is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for protection. The monitor is compatible with the Dell Active Pen stylus sold separately.
Latitude 7400 2-in-1 Convertible Laptop is based on Intel's quad-core 8 th Gen Core Whiskey Lake-U processors with integrated UHD Graphics 620 paired with up to 16GB onboard LPDDR3-2133 memory. Storage is provided via an M.2-2280 PCIe / NVMe SSD, with capacities up to 2TB and optional encryption. For the wired connection, the Latitude 7400 has 2-in-1 two Thunderbolt 3-port ports for charging, two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A connectors, an HDMI output, a microSD card reader, a TRRS audio connector , and a FIPS 201 smart card reader. On the wireless side, the converter has an 802.11ac / 802.11ax Wi-Fi + Bluetooth adapter, an optional 4 G / LTE category 16 modem, and a contactless Smart Card reader. Of course, the laptop also has speakers and a microphone array.
Dell is positioning its Latitude machines as the most popular offerings for businesses and business users (competing against the HP Elitebook and Lenovo ThinkPad PCs), so all the notebooks in the Latitude brand are equipped with state-of-the-art security and communication features. Aside from rather orthodox fingerprint scanners, the Latitude 7400 2-in-1 features an IR-equipped webcam (Windows Hello compatible) as well as contactless and contacted Smart Card readers.
A particularly interesting feature of the Latitude 7400 2-in-1 is Dell's new ExpressSign-In feature that automatically detects the presence of the owner and automatically logs them on and requires absolutely no effort through Windows Hello. This feature can eventually find its way to other Dell laptops, but at present it is still exclusive to the Latitude 7400 2-in-1.
To ensure a long battery life, the Latitude 7400 2-in-1 convertible laptop can come with a 52 Wh (with or without ExpressCharge) or a 72 Wh battery. The latter clearly emphasizes, but allows the machine to work for up to 24 hours on a fee based on the MobileMark 2014 reference (ie, it remains to be seen how long it will last in real life).
Dell will start selling Latitude 7400 2-in-1 convertible notebook in March 2019. Prices start at $ 1,599. The machine comes as standard with a one-year limited warranty, but options of up to five years will also be available.
