It seems that Apple has Another software issue of hands with the release of watchOS 5.1, when a small number of Apple Watch owners report the update, make the device useless.

Users affected by the apparent error may download the update and start the installation. The process seems to be stuck when Watch shows the Apple logo, which is still on display for several hours.
Complications appear to be limited to Apple Watch Series 4, but other Apple Watch models may also be affected. So far, reports are limited to Series 4 devices, including Nike + versions.
While some series 4 owners reported the bricking problem, others are sailing through the watchOS 5.1 installation process with Nary a hiccup.
If the problem is local – maybe a non-compliant clock configuration – or a problem with the update itself, nor is it known. Apple has not commented on the reports and continues to host watchOS 5.1 on its servers.
With reports of bricked devices in nature, users would be well served to refrain from updating their device until the problem has been fixed.
