Google Maps and Waze are the two most popular navigation apps on Android Auto, but as we have all learned recently, they can sometimes struggle with various issues that more or less ruin the whole experience in the car.
Recently, for example, Google Maps has started behaving badly when talking on the phone with Android Auto running on the main unit, and some users explain that they no longer get voice control.
More specifically, these users explain that Google Maps stops offering audio instructions on which way to go when taking a call from Android Auto. Oddly enough, if the phone call is started before the mobile device is connected to the main unit, everything works properly and the audio navigation still works properly until the call ends.
“No matter what the problem is, it behaves differently for calls started after the phone is connected to the car (card voice does not work during calls) than for calls already started before the phone connects to the car (card voice works properly and hangs over the phone sound),“Explains a user on Google̵
At this point, however, it is difficult to determine how widespread this problem actually is, and the good news is that not many people seem to make the mistake.
On the other hand, it is not entirely clear what is causing it all, although I can confirm that everything is working properly in my car with the latest Android Auto version and Google Maps completely updated. So most likely only certain users will be affected, but now it’s up to Google to find out what’s going on and develop a solution.
In the meantime, there is not much these users can do, other than try the generic solutions that involve downgrading apps to an earlier version, in the hope that the error would eventually be gone.
