Jamar Mackey, the VA Beach police officer mistakenly arrested at a mall, says he has tested positive for COVID-19 … and he completely blames the maskless officers who cuff him.
Jamar’s outrageous meeting with police on December 19 made national headlines because VA Beach PD arrested the wrong man in what appeared to be a clear case of racial profiling. At the time, Jamar and his fiancée told TMZ that they were pissed – not just for humiliation and alleged profiling – but because the officers were not wearing masks.
Jamar and Shantel Covil tell us they take the pandemic and quarantine very seriously because he owns a disinfectant business and she has a home care business. They both test often, and he says he got his positive test result on December 22 – only 3 days after the incident – so he is convinced that it was the source of his infection.
As for whether the officers involved have coronavirus – VBPD says they can not comment due to privacy laws.
So far, Shantel has tested negative, but Jamar tells us that they are most concerned about their children, including their newborns, getting the virus.
Jamar and Shantel say they want VBPD make some big changes, including the firing of the unmasked officer who handcuffed Jamar.
