Jaguar I-Pace claims new production EV record time on Laguna Seca – "kind of" beats Tesla vehicle

Jaguar is in the process of delivering the I-pace to the United States, and meanwhile, it's having fun with the electric car on American racecourses.

The UK automaker claims a new production EV record round time on the Laguna Seca race track in California – sort of beat Tesla vehicles in the process.

I say "kind" because it can be controversial depending on what you consider as a "production EV". The driver can also make a big difference.

Jaguar put professional racing driver Randy Pobst in a Photon Red 2019 Jaguar I-PACE HSE edition with "no modifications whatsoever" and he completed his record slap in 1

: 48.18. [19659002] We only reported last year that a Tesla Model S P100D broke the same record at a 1:47.62 time, but it went as well as the radar because Lucid Motors drove the vehicle as part of the development program for its own vehicle.

Jaguar says that the vehicle contained some light changes, and therefore it may demand the record with I-Pace, which is fair since I doubt Lucid Motors is going to compete.

You can see Pobst's full record round with the I pace of Motortrends channel:
