Mmmm … retro games.

Arcade1Up

Simpson fans want a cow over this one. Arcade1

Up adds The Simpsons to its range of retro home arcades, bringing back the game first released by Konami 30 years ago.

This remake is a little smaller than the machine you might remember from 90s arcades, but it also comes at a fraction of the cost of the real deal. The price is not finished yet, but it is expected to be around $ 600 when pre-orders begin on July 15. Details of participating resellers will be on Arcade1Up.com. (International rates are not yet available but the price converts to approximately £ 420 or AU $ 770.)

Arcade1Up’s new recordings have the same art design as the original machine.

Arcade1Up

Play as Homer, Marge, Bart and Lisa in this button-mashing, side-scrolling quest to save Maggie from Smithers and Mr. Burns after it blends with a diamond and her pacifier. Characters beat Mr. Burn’s goons in their own styles: Marge swings a vacuum cleaner, Bart attacks with a skateboard, Lisa swings a skipping rope. And Homer, well, punches and kicks.

It’s basically Konami Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game, but in Simpsons form.

Tastemakers, the parent company behind Arcade1Up, has been working on making new popular arcade machines for several years now and sold over 2 million machines with licensed titles, including Street Fighter, X men, Atari and Pac Man. Remakes also get some modern benefits. The Simpsons computer will have a light tent and Wi-Fi connection – making it possible to play online and join other cabinet owners.

All Arcade1Up machines have more than one game, but the company has not yet revealed what the bonus game will be for this device. I’m guessing? The giant trackball in the middle of the controls was not part of the original machine, but it could be used for The Simpsons Bowling, a game also made by Konami.

You do not win friends with salad. But you can win friends by inviting them to play at home – or online.

The design of the frame mimics the art of the original, but measures about three-quarters of the size (and no actual quarters are required). The included matching riser gives the unit a size of 57.8 inches (148 cm) and weighs approximately 104 pounds. Arcade1Ups machines require assembly, but they are quite simple. I have put two together myself.

However, we have to wait to play Arcade1Ups build of The Simpsons for ourselves, before we can say if it’s the company’s best. machine. ever.
