The Impreza 22B is the ultimate Subaru. Built in limited numbers to homologate the company’s factory WRC efforts in the nineties, it is packed with rally-minded upgrades that will make any enthusiast drool. 22Bs are exceptionally rare, with around 400 built. As such, you do not often see them for sale, especially in America. This one has just come up for auction in California, and it looks just about perfect.
Like all 22Bs, it has specific bodies to distinguish it from the standard Impreza. There are extended fenders to cover specific gold-painted BBS wheels, along with STI brake caliper and a ProDrive-tuned suspension. Under the hood sits a 2.2-liter turbocharged flat-four that made 280 horsepower new. It powers all four wheels via a five-speed manual transmission and a trucker-adjustable electronic differential at the rear ̵
This particular car, which was originally imported to the United States under the Exhibition of Show or Show Exemption Act, appears to be in spectacular condition given the high 40,000 kilometers mileage (compared to the average 22B mileage, anyway). The body panels, chassis and Recaro seat fitted interior are in fantastic shape. As a bonus, the timing belt and water pump were replaced earlier in 2021.
It’s hard to say how much this 22B will sell for. As a legitimate homologation specialist, it has a somewhat exceptional origin. And the age of nineties cars as full-on collectibles is well above us. It has already bid up to $ 88888 at the time of writing, with 13 days left to bid.
How much do you think this 22B is worth? What would you do with it if you owned it? Let us know in the comments below.
