Today’s pre-order sales for the Nintendo Switch OLED model not only attracted players. Scalpers were also quick to buy the product as well.
On eBay, you can now find over 600 lists of confirmed pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch OLED model. And many of them go for around $ 600, or about 70 percent more than the regular $ 349 price.
The scalping will not surprise anyone. But the eBay listings were posted pretty quickly, within an hour of the pre-orders starting to go live at 12 PST.

We were among the customers who tried to secure a pre-order from various retailers on Thursday. But we failed because of the high demand. Both Best Buy and Walmart ran out of stock before we could complete checkout.
Meanwhile, many scalpers began reselling the Nintendo Switch model on eBay, even though they have no product on hand. Instead, they promise to send out the console when they receive it from resellers. To prove that the resale is legitimate, some scalps include screenshots of Best Buy or Target that confirm the pre-order.
eBay first appeared in 223 listings when we searched for “Nintendo Switch OLED” at 1pm PST. But at 13.40 the entries had gone up to 614.
The scalpers were probably able to intercept the supplies using robots, which can automatically complete the checkout at an e-commerce site in seconds. Some bot manufacturers also claim that they have found “bypass” at online retailers, so that they can place orders for a requested product in front of normal consumers.

The good news is that the Nintendo Switch OLED model will not be officially launched until October 8. So you can expect more chances in the coming weeks and months to pre-order. But scalping does not bode well for consumers hoping to buy the product. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X have also been important targets for scalping.
