Instagram Reels already mimics TikTok in several ways, and now it gets a new feature from the popular video app: duets. On Instagram, users can now “remix” a scroll, which means they can upload a video next to another user, and build on top of the original clip. The feature is already popular on TikTok, often for dance challenges, during the “duet” feature.
To remix a reel, tap the three-point menu on a reel and select “Remix this Reel.” From there, you can record the tape or upload pre-recorded recordings. You can also control the volume of the original sound or the recorded sound, and add a voiceover along with other editing functions. Only new wheels will have the remixer activated automatically, but if you already have a wheel that you want people to be able to remix, you can turn it on manually by tapping the three-point menu on your own video and selecting “Enable Remixing.”
Reels was launched in August last year, and basically Instagram seemed open to get people to reformulate their TikToks on the platform. But as the months have passed, Instagram has added more TikTok-like features, while emphasizing all content that is recycled. The company is clearly serious about turning short-form video content into a mainstay. It added a wheel button to the home screen and even made sure the videos were cut for the global Lite app. It just gets closer and closer to look exactly like TikTok.
