Instagram is testing a ‘reshare’ sticker, which actually makes it harder to share posts

Instagram does not want you to spam your friends with all the posts you come across and like. So today it starts a test to make sharing stories a little harder. The company is testing a “reshare” sticker that can be placed in Stories. Once selected, a “recently viewed” tab will appear, allowing users to choose from posts they’ve seen in the last hour, saved or posted, which they can then share in their history. They can insert IGTV, reel and feed video content.

You can get an idea of what the test looks like in the picture above. Previously, if you wanted to share a feed post to your story, you then had to manually from the post itself. This test will replace that functionality, and effectively requires you to navigate away from the post itself and into creation mode.

An Instagram spokesman says the test is designed to make people more “intentional”

; and “aware” of what they are posting. Presumably this means that they do not want people to just press a share button from a post, and instead introduce a little more friction to do so. At the same time, Instagram probably wants people to get more involved with content in the app, and this can raise the bar for what people see and therefore make them tap through on different photos and videos.
