Infiniti looks forward to its promise of all electrified powders from 2021, but it does not seem to help cherry-picking retro ideas for its striking concept cars. Infiniti Prototype 10 is no exception, revealed this week on Pebble Beach Concours d 'Elegance, and connects a thoroughly modern EV drive with a delicious California Speedster design.
Surely, the Japanese automaker has some form here. Last year, the Infiniti Prototype 9 took the California car exhibition, a one-sided retro racing with an electric heart. This time there is still only one seat, but the epoch of inspiration is different.
Where the predecessor found an alternate past, Prototype 10 makes promises of Infinit's driver-centric future. "This idea of" looking back to go forward "and combining the inspiration of a previous aesthetics with future technology, lets us show how excited we are about electrification," says Karim Habib, director of design management at the car manufacturer about the car. "Prototype 10 draws on some of the most iconic and atmospheric image designs from all ages to illustrate this thrill. "
There are crafts of teams in Asia, Europe and North America, all of them. No thanks, of course, just a slim body and a snug cabin, borrowed from the Infiniti Q Inspiration concept, which was shown earlier this year, destroying the sedan-shape, but keeping the clean lines. "Ultra-modern shapes and clean, brown lines, character sets a design that would otherwise characterized by the fluid nature of the bodywork, "the company points out.
The idea is that the sharp lines echo the power of all the electric motor moments immediately. Infiniti echoes the electric t emaet with cooling channels in the cockpit too. No passenger seat, instead of large air valves, the place will keep the electric motor and the batteries cool.
Not that there's much to distract the driver either. In addition to a steering wheel, brake and throttle pedals, four-point harness and seat, there is not much else inside. Infiniti uses the drive for control so that it can isolate the wheel itself on light carbon fiber struts. The seat receives black leather and red contrast stitching, with extended side and hip supports; It is mounted low so that only the driver's head would be visible over the bodywork.
Now, Infiniti will not put Prototype 10 into production – we're just not lucky. What it will do, says the automaker, is to take important design themes from the show car and use them in future models. It will also borrow liberally from electrification technology, which will go into every new model that Infiniti offers from 2021 on.
