If your Pixel 5 system sounds annoyingly loud, a new update may fix that issue

As part of the January updates in January, Google may have fixed an issue that meant that Pixel 5 system sounds could be much louder than you might have wanted.

Since the launch of Pixel 5 in October, many users on Reddit and Google’s own support forums have reported that Pixel 5 system sounds (such as the camera shutter or the sound you hear when taking a screenshot) can be quite loud, even when the phone volume was set to a lower level.

However, in the January release notes for the January updates, Google states that the Pixel 5-specific update includes “further adjustments and improvements to the volume level of system sounds.”

; A few users on Reddit have reported that the system sounds are much quieter after installing the update, although some say that the sounds are also silent now.

The release notes also show other changes, including automatic brightness improvements on Pixel 4A, 4A 5G and 5. Here’s Google’s complete list of “notable fixes” in the January updates:

Google says the updates are now rolling out to all supported Pixel devices running Android 11.
