HTC will make Vive Focus standalone VR headset available in North America and dozens of other markets

HTC said it would make Vive Focus standalone virtual reality headsets available in North America and dozens of other markets.

The movement is part of an expansion aimed at taking VR to corporate markets, where customers are not as sensitive to higher hardware prices. Earlier, the headset was only available in China.

Dan O & # 39; Brien, CEO of America for HTC Vive, said at an event in San Francisco that Vive Focus will be available to developers of $ 600 and businesses can purchase the product for $ 750 in 37 new markets, including the United States and Europe.

Vive Advantage and Vive Advantage + are new services aimed at getting businesses to adopt VR headsets with corporate support. There will also be a new six-degree freedom (6DoF) controller for Vive Focus in the coming months. This allows people to use Vive Focus with both hands in VR, as opposed to the current 3DoF controller for use with one hand.

Hugo Swart, senior director of product management at Qualcomm Technologies, said mobile XR (expanded reality) can run technology in the company. He said that the stand-alone category, which is placed between smartphones and PCs, fits nicely into the business, with advantages like wireless and two-hand controller.

"Companies use VR to collaborate and engage with a complete solution," said Brien.

He said that companies already use VR to train thousands of people in everything from manufacturing to medical companies. Previously, Vive Focus was available in China and other limited markets.

Vive Focus is not as powerful as HTC Vive Pro or HTC Vive, both of which use PCs for processing. Vive Focus does not have to be attached to a PC, as it has its own Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor as its brain. It has three hours of battery life and a screen resolution of 1

,440 x 1,600 pixels per eye. It also has internal tracking, which means that there is no need for separate sensors to be installed around your room.

Brien said that 65 percent of those surveyed felt that VR could be used in training and simulation, and 59 percent felt it could be used in education.

"We felt cooperation in a professional environment was an unresolved category," said Brien.

Vive Sync is a collaborative project for labor aimed at this market. You can tag shared documents and save them for future use. As many as 20 people can be in the same VR space.

"Vive Sync offers us the opportunity to meet in virtual reality virtual groups," he said.

The device will use HTC's Viveport as its only App Store available for more types of headsets from different vendors. For example, the Shadow Creator's Shadow VR head-mounted display will work with the Vive Wave platform, which means it's Vive-compatible and its apps available in the Viveport store.
