Black Ops Cold War slowly fills up with new content as the first season approaches. A new leak has suggested that some of this content is from Black Ops 4. Barebones mode may return, and here’s what we know so far.
Season 1 of Black Ops Cold War is just around the corner. When it comes on December 10, we will see some brand new maps, weapons and other content. It looks like some of the new Call of Duty content will be Black Ops 4 related.
Some recent tweets from Call of Duty Leaks suggested that we would see the return of fan-favorite multiplayer modes from Black Ops 4 as part of the post-launch update. This refers to the Barebones mode which gained immense popularity among COD fans on the day.
What is Barebones Mode?
I normal Black Ops 4 multiplayer matches, you have to choose between specialists and standard equipment. Specialist soldiers had unique abilities that would make them powerhouses in combat. This would make the match feel unbalanced, so it did not go well with the fans.
Barebones mode evens out the game by placing class limits on the abilities of the specialists. It would also remove equipment, bodywork and operator mode and equipment. The equipment will be limited to once per lifetime and will not charge. Manual healing and war fog would also be in place.
This mode was hailed to make the games feel like classic Call of Duty, so its potential return will probably excite many Black Ops fans.
Should Barebones be in BOCW?
The leaker rummaged through BOCW’s game files and found some references to Barebones there. Mainly some audio files by the advertiser speaking the name of the mode. You can hear it for yourself below:
If this mode came back in Cold War Season 1, these restrictions will adapt to the new game. The changes would be minimal, and the Barebones experience would be similar to what it was like in the last Black Ops game.
We have not heard of any other Black Ops 4 content returning BOCW season 1, but we may soon. Such news will lighten the heads of fans who complained about the low number of multiplayer maps that were available at launch.
Since these are just leaks, it is worth considering that the files may be left from when specialists were in Black Ops Cold War. At this time, we have not heard anything official from Treyarch or Activision confirming this information. Once we’ve done, we’ll be sure to update you.
