How to request a “Cyberpunk 2077” refund from the developer and from several major retailers. Neither the game developer nor the companies below were immediately available for comment, so this story will continue to be updated as more information becomes available.
CD Project Red: The game developer encouraged customers to wait for the updates in January and February, which should improve the gaming experience. But it asks customers to ask for a refund directly from the places where they bought the game – this is where things get dicey, since many retailers do not fully refund opened games that have already been played. CD Projekt Red says that if it does not work to get a refund from the original dealer, send them an email at firstname.lastname@example.org through December 21, and “we will do our best to help you.”
PlayStation: Sony will now offer a full refund to those who purchased “Cyberpunk 2077” on PlayStation Store. Log in to redeem the refund here. Also, the game will be removed from PlayStation Store until further notice. Once the site has confirmed that you purchased “Cyberpunk 2077” through PlayStation Store, it will begin processing your refund. It notes that the length of time it takes to get your money back may vary depending on the method of payment and the financial institution.
Xbox: Microsoft announced on Twitter on Friday that they are expanding the refund policy to offer full refunds to anyone who has purchased the game digitally from the Microsoft store.

A Microsoft spokesperson told MarketWatch via email that “To date, we have given refunds to the vast majority of customers who have requested one. To ensure that each player is able to get the experience they expect on the Xbox, we will extend our existing refund policy to offer full refunds to anyone who purchased Cyberpunk 2077 digitally from the Microsoft Store, until further notice. ”
Steam: Steam asks customers to log in and fill out an online form to request a refund, which must be done within 14 days of purchasing the game – and only if you have played the game for less than two hours. However, given that the company says it will consider requests that fall outside these parameters, it is possible that “Cyberpunk 2077” may be refunded due to its many errors and Sony sets a precedent by giving customers the money back. Steam was not immediately available for comment on refunds from “Cyberpunk”. Customers can email CD Project Red if they have trouble getting a refund from Steam.
Amazon: The electronic retail giant will accept the return of opened “Cyberpunk 2077” games through December 21, 2020. Contact customer service for assistance online or at (888) 280-4331. Log in to your Amazon account and visit the Return Center here, where you will be asked to review your recent orders to begin the refund process.
GameStop: These customers can also return a game within 30 days of purchase, and they will receive a full refund if the game is still in its original packaging. However, if you have already opened and played the game, you have seven days to return online or in-store; it may be too late already for those who bought and opened the game on December 10th. Click here to start the return process online; you must provide the order number and e-mail address. And look back at CD Project Red if you can not get a refund.
In fact, Vice has reported that GameStop advised its employees in the store not to give a direct refund of open copies of “Cyberpunk 2077”, and instead to refer customers back to CD Projekt Red. GameStop was not immediately available for comment, but Vice noted that this is standard dealer policy.
Best Buy: Normally, the store’s return policy explains that opened physical copies of computer software and video games can only be exchanged for an identical item. Best Buy was not immediately available for comment, but a social media specialist for the company posted on the company’s gaming support forum on Friday that “after some consideration, and seeing that the supplier will allow returns through 21/12/2020, Best Buy will also allow return for selected opened Cyberpunk 2077 SKUs “to the same date.
