Here’s everything you need to know about the open beta of Guilty Gear Strives

Tonight begins the salt weekend

Update: The open beta period for Guilty Gear Strive is now available to all players on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The download requires around 11 GB of space on PS4.

Mankind knew they could not wait any longer to try out the Guilty Gear Strive̵

7;s feedback network code, so instead of hiding it from the world, Arc System Works is about to open the floodgates for pretty much anyone who wants to play.

The public open beta for Guilty Gear Strive is scheduled to go live in just a few short hours, so we’ve put together everything you need to know to get started before jumping into online battles from when servers will be available for rating guides and how the gameplay will flow.

First, it’s probably important to find out when / where the beta will be available, so this trial period will only be available to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 owners.

The beta client can be downloaded from PlayStation Store from tonight, February 18 at 19 PT / 22 ET, and the servers are scheduled to go live at the same time.

If you can not find the beta listed in the PS Store on the consoles, you can add them to your library from the site’s version of the market and then download them from the library on your chosen system.

There will be no downtime for maintenance, but the servers went offline unexpectedly earlier on Thursday for those who got into the action early and remained as such for about five hours.

This open beta test period is scheduled to last to Sunday, February 21 at 6:59 p.m. PT where the application is likely to be playable without the server connection.

There are 13 playable characters to choose from, which is the vast majority of warriors that will be available at launch – only omitting Anji Mito and the unannounced 15th contestant.

ArcSys released character-specific startup guide videos for each of them, which you can check out by clicking on the following links: Giovanna, Nagoriyuki, Leo, Ramlethal, Zato-1, Millia, Ky Kiske, Potemkin, May, Sol, Axl, Chipp , and Faust.

They also made the video of the system overview below to showcase the different mechanics available in Strive, such as the modified / improved Roman Cancel ability.

Players who are newer / less familiar with the Guilty Gear series may also want to check out some extra beginner guides, and luckily content creators like Rooflemonger and LordKnight have covered you there since the in-game beta tutorial doesn’t learn much from anything.

Even veterans will have a lot of learning to do, as the Strive is a completely different animal in the field where strokes are much more grounded than the usual high-flying combinations and removal of most Gatling options. The damage effect is also very high, so it is more important than ever to block, crack and use Roman Cancels.

Unlike the first beta last year, there are several modes to spend your time outside of online battles, including a robust training mode and offline versus mode if you just want to put on your computer or a friend on the couch.

Also different from what we got to play before is that Strive now runs on feedback network code instead of delay-based, which fans had demanded since the first revelation.

The pros and others who have been given the chance to play have already stated that it may be the smoothest online game they have ever experienced in a fighting game.

Although the glowing reviews are promising, we should remember that these players generally invest in the best internet available to them and play on cable connections so that the audience can see a little differently.

Although there will be no connection filters present in the beta, Strive actually shows the ping and rollback frames that occur in matches with reports of games with 200 ms + that are still playable. The higher the number, the worse the match is likely to perform.

Many people also test cross-continental battles by joining other countries’ lobbies, so do not be afraid to jump into the Japanese tower to see how it holds up for you.

A PlayStation Plus subscription is not required to play online, so anyone with Sony consoles and an Internet connection can play Strive.

The almost universally-paned lobby system is back, as well as the unique ranking system, although standard combat search is also available. Some have reported that the feature did not work properly when the beta started, but hopefully it is fixed for the main event.

Those who want to get into the full action, have to wait for two months, when Guilty Gear Strive is scheduled to be released on PS4, PS5 and PC on April 9.
