HBO Max app update for Apple TV brings back Native Video Player

HBO Max has updated its Apple TV app to address issues with the video playback interface that emerged last week following the introduction of a custom VCR.

The new update restores the original tvOS VCR interface, which means that users will no longer have to deal with the fast-forwarding and rewinding of videos for which the custom player was apparently responsible.

“We have just released an update to our ‌Apple TV‌ app, restoring the original tvOS video playback experience you know and love, with more improvements to come,” HBO Max announced in a tweet. “Making sure HBO Max viewers have a quality experience is our top priority, and we missed the mark here. Thank you for your patience.”

As pointed out by The Verge, some users on HBO Max subreddit still report some other issues related to subtitles and thumbnail preview after updating, but the general consensus is that going back to the built-in video player interface has made the app much more responsive to ‌Apple TV‌ Siri Remote inputs .
