Pixel Buds 2 was not perfect, but for Google’s first attempt at real wireless earbuds, there was a lot to love about them. We already knew that Google was working hard on two new headphones, thanks to FCC lists discovered last week. Thanks to a new leak, we have a better idea of the next set of Pixel Buds scheduled for release later this year.

According to a report from 9to5Google, these new earbuds will be called “Pixel Buds A”

; and will keep the same look as last year’s model. They will also have the same excellent touch controls we praised in our review. Pixel Buds A comes in both white and green variants, with the latter choosing a much darker color than the “Quite Mint” shade used in 2020. These knobs release the black plastic from the earplugs and the interior of the suitcase, and change to a uniform color on both models. Although prices are not yet known, the “A” denominator means a cheaper addition to the Pixel Buds line, following the same naming plan as Google’s phone line.

There is still no word on when Pixel Buds A may be launched, but last week’s FCC listings appear to point to a mid-year update. Given that it’s not the only leak coming from Google’s hardware division, the company’s next launch event may be just a few weeks away.
