The last thing we need in Google Maps is support for chat, considering the many messaging apps available on smartphones right now – including Google's own messaging programs. Some users have discovered that Google Maps will soon receive a Messages menu item, but it's not as bad as you think. It can prove to be a useful feature and further enhance the navigation experience provided by the world's most popular mapping program.
Reddit uses sanju2cool added screenshots showing the new message menu. As always with Google Maps tests, the new tab may not be available to all Google Maps users out there, since Google sometimes likes to test new features with a small number of users before they become widely available.
The feature will not let you talk to your contacts or other people at the moment, and hopefully it will never happen in Google Maps. The app is not the place where you will continue to see alerts from family members and friends, especially when trying to navigate somewhere.
Google Maps offers a lot of useful information about nearby places, except to provide directions to any location on earth, and it includes a way to schedule meetings with friends. In the future, Google Maps will also get some Waze-like reporting features to improve navigation.
