While we wait for Android 12 to officially go live later this year, Google has one bunch of adjustments and updates coming to Android this spring.

Following 2019 update to Chrome, Google now brings Password control to Android to help alert you to potential leaks or computer breaches that may have exposed your existing passwords to hackers. Password Control rolls out to devices with Android 9 and later, and will automatically check passwords already stored in Android along with any new ones. If Google detects that your password has been exposed, you will be notified that you will change it.

Password checking is important, but let’s get down to the good things: Google Maps is finally gets long-expected official dark mode. And in Google Messages on Android 7 and above, Google adds the ability to send scheduled messages, similar to Gmail scheduled email function. All you have to do is type a message as normal, and then hold down the send button, which will bring up a new menu so you can specify the exact time when the text should go out.

Even Google Assistant gets a small upgrade, with the ability to make calls, set timers and alarms, and play music on your phone using voice commands. This means that your Android phone can now act as a smart speaker, helping to expand the role of Google Assistant as just answering questions with these additional automation features.

Android Auto also gets an update. Google added new car-inspired backgrounds and voice activated games like Jeopardy to help the long car rides go a little faster. And to make things like contacts easier to access, Google also adds shortcuts to Android Auto, and cars with widescreen displays get a new split screen mode so you can see Google Maps and your media controls at the same time.

Finally, for people who are blind or visually impairedGoogle is also launching a new version of its Talkback app with a redesigned menu, more intuitive motion detection, improved reading controls and more.
