Google is notorious for killing apps and services, and it looks like the search giant has found its next victim. According to newly discovered code strings, Google can prepare to exit its Shopping mobile app.
XDA editor-in-chief Mishaal Rahman discovered the code in version 59 of the Shopping app, which suggests that its days are numbered. We shared the news on Twitter earlier today and spread it here so that everyone is informed.
Here is the current code:
Shop online The app is unavailable right now, but you can continue shopping at shopping.google.com

Currently, the screen in Tweet below is not shown to users in the latest version of the Google Shopping app. However, once Google makes the news official, it will probably start to appear when users launch the app. It is possible that the wording of the page changes. In any case, it is clear that the Shopping app is next on the chopping block.

If true, the Google Shopping app will join a long list of projects that the search giant has killed, which also includes Google Reader, Hangouts, Expeditions and many, many more. There’s a whole site called KilledByGoogle that highlights all the things Google has killed over the years, like a total of over 200 projects, but probably a lot more we do not even know about.
If you’ve never used the Google Shopping app, you can quickly shop in thousands of stores and buy items using your Google Account. “When you shop on Google, your order is backed by a Google guarantee – with easy returns and customer support 7 days a week,” the app description states.
As the Shopping app potentially disappears, you will still be able to participate in retail therapy by visiting shopping.google.com, where you can see new features such as price insight to help you get the best deal online.
