Since the revelation last year, many have called it new god of war sequel to PlayStation 5 “God of War: Ragnarok” by default. This is primarily because Santa Monica Studio and PlayStation at this time have not announced what the formal name of the next installment in god of war series will actually be. That said, if a new tease from god of war director and writer Cory Barlog is some indication, it looks like “Ragnarok” will not be in the title after all.
In a new tweet from Barlog on Twitter, the famous video game director shared an article that used God of War: Ragnarok naming convention. Barlog gave a caption of his own when he shared the tweet and asked, “How come I never heard of this game?”

That said, Barlog can just pull everyone’s legs with this latest tweet. If you happen to follow Barlog on Twitter, you’re probably aware that he’s not talking about the next one god of war game so much. And even when he does, it is often in clever ways like this that somehow teases the existence of the project.
Still, it stands to reason God of War: Ragnarok is very much not the name of the upcoming sequel. The only reason this title in the first place is because the game’s revealing trailer simply contained god of war logo next to the words “Ragnarok is coming.” Many then began to use God of War: Ragnarok as shorthand to refer to the upcoming title, although those who work with the game in any capacity have never called it anything of the sort.
For now, everything we know with absolute certainty about the next god of war is that a release on the PS5 is planned for 2021. A version of the game for PlayStation 4 may also be in the cards, but the powers that be over at Sony have not confirmed or denied this information. With the launch still planned this year, be sure to continue to follow our coverage of the sequel here if you want to be in the loop.
Do you think Barlog’s teasing here indicates that God of War: Ragnarok is not the name of the sequel after all? Remember to let me know either down in the comments or over on Twitter at @ MooreMan12.
