Genshin Impact Devs awarded PS5 graphics card via RNG

Raffles and gift releases are not uncommon at company parties, but the company behind Genshin Impact went a step further and awarded randomly accessible graphics cards and PS5s to employees as a thank you for helping create one of last year̵

7;s hottest new free-to-play gacha games.

“MiHoYo, the developers of Genshin Impact, held their annual staff meeting where they gave away a bunch of electronics to employees in a lottery, “Niko Partners senior data analyst, Daniel Ahmad, wrote on Twitter yesterday. The accompanying photos showed giant stacks of iPhones, Nintendo switches, GeForce RTX graphics cards and PlayStation 5s, the latter of which have been particularly difficult for people to obtain after an ongoing shortage of stock.

The irony, of course, as PC player pointed out, is it Genshin Impact is largely based around lotteries—based on random number generators (RNG)in which players pay currency earned in the game or real money for a chance to unlock rare new characters. Some are much harder to get than others, which causes players to grind and burn through resources waiting for top grades like Venti to Fall. Some players have spent a lot of money on the game this way, one of the reasons Genshin Impact continued to earn nearly $ 400 million in the first few months, according to the mobile analysis company Sensor Tower.

To celebrate the game’s lucrative launch, MiHoYo reportedly used a similar fall rate system to award the limited supply of gaming hardware it planned to give away to employees on top of other bonuses. According to a screenshot shared by Ahmad, employees had 30% shots on a Nintendo Switch, 21% shots on an RTX 3070 graphics card, 16% shots on a PS5 and a 1% chance of getting a combined Apple Watch Series 6 and iPhone 12 Pro Max package.

For now, it looks like you have at least as good a chance to score a PS5 from getting a job working with Genshin Impact as you do from updating your Amazon shopping cart.
