Given the fluid nature of games, with major changes coming through updates, the idea of a physical guide created and printed at a game's release seems outdated. But Prima put a lot of time and effort into his guides, with tons of art and graphics, which served to many as a defacto coffee table for their favorite games.
While Prima embraced online, offering guides through the site was not enough to overcome the pure traffic that IGN and GameFaqs would bring in. Although it's unfortunate to see Prima Games close the doors, it's really hard to beat free information. And there is still another actor in the physical video game management site, Piggyback, but it does not publish almost as many guides as Prima once did.
