The Galaxy S9 series has not yet been downgraded to quarterly security updates, and thanks to Samsung’s continued support, the flagships in 2018 have received a total of fourth security updates so far this year. The April 2021 security update is now available for the Galaxy S9 in Europe through a new firmware version OTA update G96xFXXUFFUC6.
More specifically, Samsung has so far released the April 2021 security update for the Galaxy S9 + variant in Germany. Nevertheless, other markets should follow suit, nor the standard Galaxy S9 model.
Enjoy the monthly security updates for as long as they last
Samsung stopped supporting the Galaxy S9 series with major Android OS upgrades after the release of One UI 2.5 last year. Since then, the company continued to update the Galaxy S9 series with monthly security updates, but it is only a matter of time before the series will switch to a quarterly security update plan. This change is expected to take place by the end of the year, but there are no clear indications of when it will take place.
Regarding the latest release, Galaxy S9 + owners in Germany should be able to download the April 2021
Update: The same firmware update is now also available for the base model Galaxy S9 (SM-G960F) in Germany.
