Note 9 will not fit into the Gear VR headphone without any modifications, which Samsung you will not want to try. Instead, you can call or chat with Samsung and request a free adapter. The only downside? It takes two weeks to arrive.
If you already own a Gear VR virtual reality headset and recently upgraded to Galaxy Note 9, you have a problem. Gear VR is listed as compatible with a range of Galaxy phones, including S9, S9 +, Note 8, S8, S8 +, S7, S7 edge, Note 5, S6 edge +, S6, S6 edge, A8 Star, A8, A8 +. Note 9 does not fit, but Samsung still shows it as a compatible model.
Before you start trying to change Gear VR you know that Samsung realizes that it does not fit. The solution to this problem comes in the form of an adapter. The good news is that Note 9 owners can get the adapter for free, they only need to call Samsung or have a live chat.
As SamMobile reports, some owners of Note 9 have turned to use a Dremel to make the phones fit into the VR gear. Do not do this!
Samsung made the model SM-R325N of headset compatible via an adapter but did not send it to the phone for obvious reasons. To get one, just call Samsung in the US at 1
The one bad news is the wait. Samsung says it takes two weeks for the adapter to come to you when prompted. So while it's free, it's not an instant solution (no, not now for Dremel). We also do not get a new Gear VR model that will be compatible out of the box. The next update is not expected until 2019 with the Galaxy S10, so this adapter is important.
