First look at Vietnam and its leader Lady Triệu in Civilization 6 • Eurogamer.net

Firaxis has released a deep dive video revealing Vietnam for Civilization 6.

Vietnam, which is part of the New Frontier Pass due out on January 28, is led by Bà Triệu, also known as Triệu Thị Trinh or Lady Triệu. Bà Triệu fought against the occupation of North Vietnam by the Wu Empire in the early 200s AD.

7;s unique ability is the Nine Dragon River Delta, which means that all specialized districts can only be built on tiles of rainforest, bog or forest. Buildings on each type of tile get either extra science, production or culture. This opportunity also makes it possible to plant forests with Medieval Faires civic.

Bà Triệu’s unique ability is Drive Out the Aggressors, which provides extra combat power for units fighting in rainforests, bogs or forest tiles. This bonus is further increased for tiles owned by Vietnam. If you start a turn in rainforest, bog or forest, the units get extra movement, which is also promoted for owned tiles.

Vietnam has a unique device from the Middle Ages, called Voi Chien, which can move after attacks. It is more expensive than the bracelet unit it replaces, but it is stronger when you defend and have greater vision.

And finally, Vietnam’s unique district is Thanh, which provides extra culture for each adjacent district. Once the aircraft is examined, the district generates tourism that is equal to the cultural benefits. It does not require a population and is cheaper to build than the camp district it replaces.

Vietnam looks like a relatively flexible terrain-focused civ, which can shoot for either science or culture, depending on the location of the districts. Firaxis proposes to build buildings as quickly as possible to take advantage of the extra benefits. Avoid the desert, but do not be afraid to settle in open plains or grasslands, as Vietnam can plant forests early. However, rainforests cannot be planted, so think carefully before you cut them down.

Forests, rainforests and marshlands owned by Vietnam provide the civ with significant tactical advantages, making Vietnam “a defensive powerhouse,” Firaxis said. But if you choose your battle strategically, these tiles also allow Vietnam to make some devastating offensive attacks.

Beware of forest fires and volcanoes, though – these can be especially devastating to Vietnam.

As mentioned, Civilization 6’s fifth DLC, Vietnam & Kublai Khan Pack, will be released on January 28th. Those who own the New Frontier Pass get this DLC, or you can buy it separately for £ 7.39.
