The Galaxy S21 is on its way as Samsung’s Unpacked arrangement is today at 07.00 PT (at 10.00 ET), after months of rumors and speculation. How to watch the Galaxy Unpacked event live on the last day of CES. The recent leaks show detailed product specifications and information on how the three S21 phones compare with each other and what comes in the box, as well as what appears to be a pre-order offer for Galaxy Buds Pro or Galaxy Buds Live and Galaxy SmartTag. You can actually register to pre-order S21 right now.

The company released a whole range of phones in 2020 to match almost any budget, from the $ 100 Galaxy A01 all the way to the $ 1,999 Galaxy Z Fold 2. But the Galaxy S phones are seen as the company’s flagship phones, with 2020 to see the launch of Galaxy S20 line and the more affordable Galaxy S20 FE. Leaks point to S21 has a new design with enhanced camera features, including a 10x optical zoom. Other rumors say that the S21 Ultra may even replace the Galaxy Note phones completely, with leaks showing a case for the phone which has room for the S Pen.

Here’s all we know right now about the Galaxy S21 phones.

3 Galaxy S21 phones with the same processor

It should come as no surprise that Samsung is expected to launch three different models of the S21: 6.2-inch S21, 6.7-inch S21 Plus and 6.8-inch S21 Ultra. But an extensive leak from Max Weinbach from Android Police apparently documents almost the entire specification sheet, which reveals even more about these three phones than just model names and sizes. The latest Evan Blass leak also includes a detailed specification sheet showing three phones with the same model name and screen sizes.

The monitors probably all support 120Hz like the previous S20 series, with the S21 Ultra having the highest resolution WQHD Plus monitor. But the second key reveals that these phones are likely to use the latest Snapdragon processor in the US. Formerly known as the Snapdragon 875, it has actually been branded as the Snapdragon 888, which was announced at a Qualcomm virtual event in December. Some of the key requirements for the new chip are faster 5G performance and extended battery life.

The other main differences between the S21 phones seem to be the design of the camera modules, color choices and of course the battery capacity. The base S21 will have a 4000 mAh battery, the S21 Plus battery will be 4800 mAh and the high-end S21 Ultra will have a huge 5,000 mAh battery, according to the leaked specification sheets.

Reproductions show a sleek new camera and frame design

Previous releases published by Steve Hemmerstoffer (@OnLeaks) indicate that the Galaxy S21 will not look radically different from the previous S20 phones, but it will have a redesigned camera module. It looks like there will be a fingerprint reader on the screen and a hole-selfie camera as before on all three phones, with the screens on the S21 and S21 Plus sitting flat and the S21 Ultra screen curving at the edges. More teasers for Galaxy S21 leaked online in early December shows a Phantom Violet color with hole camera and small frame on the front of the device and a three-camera rear setup.

The three-camera array on the S21 and S21 Plus has been moved to the upper left corner, and it is safe to assume that it will be a standard wide-angle, ultra-wide-angle and telephoto camera. This rendering is in line with the leaked specification sheet from Android Police and Evan Blass, which states that this will be a 12-megapixel ultra-wide and wide camera, plus a 64-megapixel tele-camera. The LED flash is moved directly to the right of the camera body.

The Galaxy S21 Ultra is a little different, with a much larger camera module with four rear cameras: a 12-megapixel wide and ultra-wide, plus two 10-megapixel telephones with 3x and 10x optical zoom. It also looks like the 100x Space Zoom set on the S20 Ultra will also appear on the S21 Ultra. Space zoom is Samsung’s term for hybrid digital and optical zoom used to reach 100 times.

The S21 Ultra’s main camera appears to have a 108 megapixel sensor called the “gen 2 sensor” on the specification sheet. We assume it will use a similar one pixel binding method of sending 12-megapixel images, as the S20 Ultra and Note 20 Ultra do with their 108-megapixel sensors. The S21 Ultra also appears to retain the laser autofocus system found on the Note 20 Ultra, as opposed to the phase-detecting autofocus system on the S20 Ultra.

Evan Blass on Twitter shared the following infographic describing the resolution and specifications of the cameras on the S21 series that appear to confirm the previous leaks.

While the @OnLeaks renderings also show the S21 series in both gray and black, other colors are expected. The S21 appears to come in a Phantom White, Phantom Gray, Phantom Violet and Phantom Pink; S21 Plus in Phantom Silver, Phantom Black and Phantom Violet; and S21 Ultra in Phantom Black and Phantom Silver. The rendering in the video below from the Italian website Pigtou shows what the silver finish might look like.

Twitter user Ice-universe posted a photo showing conceptual representations of the other S21 colors, and followed up with an image that was posted on Instagram which they claim is the front page of the S21 Ultra.

YouTube user Sakitech posted the video below, which claims to show a picture of both the S21 Ultra and the S21 Plus. It describes the camera’s specifications and provides an overview of what the pre-production sample might look like. The Dutch website LetsGoDigital also posted detailed 3D renderings of the Galaxy S21 series showing the SIM tray moved to the bottom of the phone.

Will the Galaxy S21 have accessories in the box?

Samsung will almost certainly follow suit Apple’s management in removing both the charger and the corded headphones from the box of the Galaxy S21, according to an earlier report, now confirmed by the Blass leaks. This would not be the first time Samsung has removed the headphones from the store box, as the Galaxy Z Fold 2 $ 1999 was shipped without headphones in the US (although you can request a pair of AKG headphones from Samsung after purchase).

Goodbye Galaxy Note, hello stylus for S21?

A report from Reuters says that Samsung can discontinue the Galaxy Note line, and the S21 Ultra will take its place as the Samsung phone with a pen. While the reproductions do not show a visible location for a pen, the phone can still support the S Pen with a software update. This means that the pen must be kept separate from the phone when not in use. Pictures from WinFuture show a case for the S21 Ultra that has a specific track for the S Pen when not in use, and seems to confirm rumors that there will be no place to store the S Pen in the phone itself, as you can on the Galaxy Note line. The latest specification leak also shows only S Pen support in the S21 Ultra, although the pen is sold separately.

In Samsung’s blog post, TM Roh also confirms that there will be a synergy between Note and other Samsung phones. “We’ve also been following people’s favorite aspects of the Galaxy Note experience, and are excited to add some of the most popular features to other devices in our series.”

Older portable devices may not be compatible with the S21

Samsung has released many different training trackers and smartwatches in recent years, but a warning in the Samsung Members app discovered by GalaxyClub suggests that the Galaxy S21 will not support older portable devices such as the Galaxy Gear. The full list of affected devices includes Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo, Gear S and Gear Fit. This news is not particularly surprising, given that some of these trackers were released over five years ago.

A UI 3.1 can debut on S21

Another video released by Droid Life shows the new Samsung One UI 3.1 which is supposed to be launched with the S21. As an update to the current One UI 3.0 that is on many new Samsung phones currently running Android 11, the new update seems to provide features such as background videos, Google detects feed on the home screen, plus adjustments to the camera interface.

The S21 may be cheaper than the S20

There is also the possibility that Samsung will drop the base price of the Galaxy S21, perhaps in response to the decline in sales of mobile phones across the board due to the coronavirus pandemic. South Korean leaked Landsk claims that the S21 will start at $ 899, the S21 Plus at $ 1,099 and the S21 Ultra $ 1,250. This will mark a price drop of $ 100 compared to the launch price of the regular S20 in March 2020.
