Square Enix has announced a summer sale for MMO Final Fantasy XIV; with Shadow feeders and complete edition is 60% off.
While sales were only announced for Japan at this time, it is worth noting that sales also apply to North America and Europe. 60% discount applies to Shadow feeders expansion, the Shadow feeders Collector̵
The sale will last until August 18 in Japan, but the western Square Enix stores will not separate when their sale ends. Western PlayStation Stores notes that the sale will end on August 19 [US: 1, 2, 3] [Europe: 1, 2, 3].
The western Final Fantasy XIV Twitter account announced a sale of a different type, for the game’s premium store. In addition to the introduction of Oracle’s outfit and considered emote, there are also sales of several items until August 13.
The latter includes the Eureka emote and two items related to the recent Make it Rain campaign and the Gold Saucer. This is the Senor Sabotender emote (to dance like the Gold Saucers mascot), and the authentic Senor Sabotender Trophy for your home. There are also discounts on propulsion skippers; equalization of a job to 70 or completion of the first two extensions.
While it is surprising to see that the sale of the game and the expansion have not been announced, one possible reason may be that Square Enix is reluctant to a new wave of players. Final Fantasy XIV has recently seen a growing interest; are all attributed to a man. Played recently broke its Steam player record by over 47,000; after World of Warcraft streamer Asmongold tried the game.
His first two streams and subsequent VOD reached 2.7 million and 2.1 million views. The game had to struggle with the fact that the western servers were full, and had to implement a waiting list for the Complete Edition.
MMO Population – use of API tools, Reddit and other resources to calculate player and active player numbers – suggested that Final Fantasy XIV has an estimated 2.49 million active players. This would be 30,000 more than their estimate for World of Warcraft (provided both numbers are accurate).
Officially, Final Fantasy XIV reached over 22 million registered players worldwide in April 2021. This will also include players who signed up for the game’s free trial. Nevertheless, this number must have increased since Asmongold took his first steps into Eorzea.
Square Enix recently launched the benchmark index for Endwalker expansion. This allows players to not only test how well the game will run on the PC, but also use the game’s character traits. The latter will give players a small taste of the upcoming Male Viera race.
The Make it Rain campaign is also underway, providing more MGP from the Gold Saucer mini-player. This will also surely see an influx of players. This writer also experienced lags from a European world while in the Gold Saucer, and a large number of players who needed around NPCs offering missions and services. This image here indicates only half of the players who surrounded this limited time mission NPC at its peak.
Final Fantasy XIV is available for Windows PC, (via SE Store and Steam), PlayStation 4, and coming soon to PlayStation 5 and Xbox One. A free trial is available, including the base game and the first expansion with some restrictions. Next expansion; Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker, launches November 23.
