Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade: Everything you need to know

Yuffie, the star of Intergrade.

Square Enix

Final Fantasy 7 Remake launched last year on PlayStation 4 after well over ten years of expectation. We still know precious little about the sequel – the original is divided into several games – but we may be in the process of finding out a little more about Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, which hits PlayStation 5 June 10. Here’s everything you need to know about the strange title game.

What is Intergrade?

Intergrade consists of two parts. First, there is a visually enhanced version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake (more on the enhancements below). The other part of the package is EPISODE INTERmission (freaky capitalization courtesy of Square Enix, not me), DLC content playing Yuffie Kisaragi, a fan favorite character from the original game. This DLC is exclusive to PS5.

Last year’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake did not completely remake the PlayStation 1 classic, but rather reshaped the first part of the game. Change ends when Cloud Strife and the gang leave Midgar, which is before they meet Yuffie. As such, the material thief was not mentioned in last year’s match – that’s why fans are happy to see her again.

What changes are made in FF7 Remake?

Intergrade will add a few features to Final Fantasy 7 Remake, most of which are graphics. Square Enix says that textures and lighting will be improved – although it is doubtful where the improvements will be, since last year’s game was already very good – and faster loading time. It is also:

  • Choice between “Graphics Mode” and “Performance Mode”. The former prioritizes 4K resolution, the latter 60 frames per second game.
  • A photo mode.
  • Haptic feedback via the DualSense controller.

PS5 owners prepare you: There is one big game.

How do I get a free upgrade?

You may not have heard that those who own Final Fantasy 7 Remake on PS4 will get a free upgrade to Intergrade on PS4. This is a bit confusing. You do not get the full Intergrade package, but rather get the improved version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake. EPISODE INTERmission is sold separately as a DLC for $ 20. That said, if you do not own the PS4 game, you can purchase the full Intergrade package for $ 70.

Note that the free PS4-to-PS5 upgrade does not apply to those who downloaded Final Fantasy 7 Remake for free when it was a PlayStation Plus benefit.

What do we know about Yuffie’s mission?

Yuffie is on a mission in Midgar to steal precious material from Shinra, the main characters in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Yuffie is from Wutai, a region in the world of Final Fantasy 7 that had a war with Shinra before the events of the game, so she has naturally been with the mega corps.

Expect DLC to delve into some of the history between Shinra and Wutai. Some of the war will probably be shown in Fort Condor, a mini-game in DLC. (Those who remember Final Fantasy 8 and 10 mini-games know that these can have a life of their own.)

You play as Yuffie and the new character Sonos.

Square Enix

Yuffie’s story takes place during the events of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and the game’s creator has said that her story will lead straight into Remake’s true sequel.

DLC will introduce a set of new characters, including Sonon. He’s Yuffie’s co – player in the game – a warrior from Wutai who trained under Yuffie’s father – who you will also play as during combat. Since Yuffie works with Avalanche, the eco-terrorist group Cloud joins Midgar, there will also be new faces from the group.

As for the villains, Weiss, who Final Fantasy fans will remember from Dirge of Cerberus, is back, along with his younger brother Nero.
