Ex-BioWare designer draws map for Mass Effect 3 Mars rover Easter eggs • Eurogamer.net

Mass Effect 3 contains a hidden Easter egg from Mars Rover – and now, 10 years later, there is an “official” map showing how to activate it yourself.

Former BioWare designer Richard Boisvert wrote about Mass Effect reddit, explaining that the Easter egg was his creation, and it was a specific path players had to follow to see it correctly.

“As far as I know, no one has ever stumbled upon it,” Boisvert wrote.

A year ago, a fan did find the Easter egg while playing with a modified version of Mass Effect 3 where you can freely manipulate the camera and see beyond the borders.

Post on Mass Effect reddit back in April 2020, fan Marcus_Khaar revealed photos of the Mars rover, which led to joy among hardcore fans at the discovery of a long hidden secret.

There was even discussion about how the model had been cobbled together ̵

1; apparently from objects that were already in play. (The wheels look like tires from Mako models, while the neck appears to be the remaining model of a prototic tower.)

What is new now, however, is a method of bringing the Mars rover to life – via a hand-drawn map by the creator Boisvert. Everything comes at just the right time for fans who reach the trilogy’s third match via the new Mass Effect Legendary Edition.

From the start of the Mars level, follow this route through the base’s solar panel array to activate your rover buddy:

Boisverts map.

“I did,” reddit user Tuskin38 later confirmed after following Boisvert’s instructions, along with a series of snaps showing the rover playing together. “There’s a little rover behind some rocks. When you walk that path, it drives over to the edge of the cliff, looks up and nods at you.”

Tuskin38’s confirmation.

For more on Mass Effect 3, I recently sat down with lead author Mac Walters to discuss how BioWare began planning the final game of its trilogy – read on for details on a cut Reaper boss, switch quests and more.
