Dragon Quest XII may reflect the future of the series for the next decade



In an interview, Square Enix President Yosuke Matsuda stated this Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate could reflect the future of the series over the next ten to twenty years. In addition, Matsuda shared that while parts of the upcoming title will reflect the conventional image of Dragon Quest series, innovation is important to push the series forward. In May 2021, Square announced Enix Dragon Quest XII during the series’ 35th anniversary broadcast. The broadcast revealed that the “command combat system” would receive changes. The match system will be updated for the upcoming title. However, that is all we know, as any changes have not yet been revealed.

Plus Dragon Quest XII will have a darker history compared to previous listings. Details of the story have not yet been revealed, and more information will be shown in the future. Apart from the first announcement, and some pieces of previously shared information, a potential release date is still unannounced. An archived version of the broadcast is currently available for viewing through the Square Enix YouTube channel. However, the broadcast is only available in Japanese.

Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate is currently under development. A release date and any potential platforms have not yet been revealed.
