DigiTimes: iPhone 13 has new Wi-Fi 6E standard

As the launch of the iPhone 13 approaches, we can learn even more details about Apple’s upcoming devices. A report by DigiTimes says the company will introduce the Wi-Fi 6E standard in this generation.

GaA’s IC foundries Win Semiconductors and Advanced Wireless Semiconductor Company (AWSC), and GaA’s epi-wafer provider Visual Photonics Epitaxy Company (VPEC) are all ready to record significant revenue gains in the second half of 2021, encouraged by demand for the upcoming iPhones and Wi-Fi 6E-related applications, according to industry sources.

According to a TP-Link blog post, “6 GHz is the new frequency band that ranges from 5.925 GHz to 7.125 GHz, and provides up to 1200 MHz extra spectrum. (…) Access to the 6 GHz frequency provides more bandwidth, faster speeds and lower latency, opening up resources for future innovations such as AR / VR, 8K streaming and more. ”

DigiTimes says Qualcomm, Broadcom and MediaTek commercialize the production of Wi-Fi 6E core chips, which must be connected to RF front-end modules. The story also confirms what leaks DylanDkt posted this week that only the Pro models have the LiDAR scanner:

As new iPhones will continue to use 3D face ID sensors for general models and ToF LiDAR scanners for the Pro series, the three GaAS players will also see their revenue in the third quarter further strengthened by VCSEL chip’s demand for sensing solutions , said the sources.
