Comparison of Samsung Galaxy Note 9 performance against iPhone X

Samsung has just released its latest flagship phablet, Galaxy Note 9, in a bid on an Apple's iPhone X before the Cupertino tech giant releases a new smartphone show this fall. We put the note 9 to the test.

Samsung's Note 9 is very similar to previous models in the line, except for new cameras and a repositioned fingerprint sensor, it does not feel different from the Galaxy S9 or Note 8.

Our evaluation unit packs in 128GB of storage space and 6GB of RAM for $ 999, dual storage and system memory Apple offers at the same price as iPhone X. A higher tier Note 5 with 51

2GB of storage can be enjoyed for a powerful $ 1,249 or $ 100 more than a 256GB iPhone X. [19659004] Inside Not 9 is packaged with the same Qualcomm 845 processor included in the Galaxy S9. It is an eight-core CPU that consists of four efficiency cores and four performance cores, running at up to 2.8 GHz. In comparison, the iPhone X's Apple-designed A11 Bionic processor boasts six cores – four efficiency cores and two high-end cores – run at a slightly lower clock speed of 2.39 GHz.

Both Not 9 models get the same Adreno 630 graphics chip as S9 and S9 +, as Qualcomm says is 30 percent faster, 30 percent more efficient and has 2.5 times the screen's throughput than the graphics chip in Note 8.

In addition to typical smartphone innards, Samsung incorporates a new water-cooling system that it claims prevents overheating.

Changes to reference numbers, iPhone X completely destroys note 9 in Geekbench 4, especially in single core performance. The iPhone came in with single and multi-core scores of 4.224 and 10.667, while Note 9 managed to score 2.442 and 8.765. Interestingly, the performance of Note 9 is an improvement over S9 +, which is 2,007 and 8,307.

For Geekbench 4's graphics sample, the listing received 9 14,365, only 57 points higher than S9 +, and very close to the iPhone Xs 15,301.

Moving on to the Antutu reference, Note 9 actually hits iPhone with a good margin, with respective scores of 279,773 and 200,937. For Samsung, they are improving their performance thanks to the massive improvements Qualcomm puts in its graphics chip. It even made a bit better than the S9 +, which scored 263,661 points.

In the Antutus HTML 5 test, the browser 9 frozen the same point several times, but we suspect it would have cut the same as the S9 + unit's 33,924 points. The IPhone X, on the other hand, got 39,150 points. Octane 2.0, another browser benchmark, saw the iPhone X-floor note 9 with scores of 36,714 to 20,194.

For our final test, we ran the GFXBench OpenGLs 1080p Manhattan Offscreen Test. The IPhone X is a little ahead with a score of 5,551, compared with 5,152 on Note 9. The new note showed a slightly better performance compared to S9 +, which scored 5.106.

While achieving higher marks better than iPhone X in Antutus 3D reference, Note 9 is slower compared to Apple's almost year old smartphone. In fact, note 9 is only slightly faster than S9 +.

We will conduct more testing with the new Note 9 in the coming days, including images and video comparisons.
