No one ever said that the Chinese video game approval process has ever been sensible, but it is less sensible to leave Tencent Games out of the list. The state's administration of press, publication, radio, film and television (yes it is a real governing body there) approved 80 online games, but for some reason excluded games from its home country's largest company. Taking much of the wind out of the company's sales and hurting players, they are heavily involved in bringing popular mobile titles to China such as Arena of Valor Fortnite and PUBG .
So far, no one has an explanation as to why this happened, not even industry insiders. The best guess people have is that all these games recently came up with a suggested list of titles that should be censored or banned. But the list was a suggestion and has not yet been implemented, so it does not explain why today's games that have not yet hit the market would be affected. Failure to get approved caused shares of Tencent Games to dip 20%.
