Still, it's pretty unusual for an automaker to stage the world premiere for a redesigned model at the Consumer Electronics Show instead Daimler AG is planning to do just that with the redesigned Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupe at the 2019 CES in Las Vegas, on Jan. 8
The new CLA's consumer electronics cred includes an updated version of the MBUX infotainment system – short for Mercedes-Benz User Experience unveiled MBUX at CES in 2018. That was another unusual move, to introduce a new infotainment system without a particular car attached.
The redesigned Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupe's version of MBUX includes the MBUX Interior Assistant, which can be controlled by hand movements, and includes augmented reality for navigation. The market first got the previous generation of the CLA, which is Mercedes-Benz a so-called "four-door coupe," as an entry-level model beginning in 2013. The CLA is derived from the Mercedes-Benz A-Class.  The first-generation A-Class was launched in 1997, but Daimler is launching it in the United States. The Mercedes-Benz brand has a more workaday image in Europe – they're common as taxis, especially in Germany – whereas at global standards, the brand image in the United States has been more exclusive and high-end.

As a new entry-level model slot below the CLA, the U.S.A. sales and marketing subsidiary is also adding the A220 sedan and its all-wheel-drive equivalent, the A220 4Matic. That U.S. debut was expected at the tail end of calendar year 2018, but on Dec. 31 the Mercedes-Benz USA consumer web site still said "price coming soon" for the A-Class sedan. That's a good sign the market introduction is imminent, but it's looking like early 2019.
