The Audi RS6 Avant is dream length, and being a hot, new car that is in high demand by opportunists circles already to earn quickly. Dig into the sales history of some of the low milse examples now available, and you will learn something surprising: It’s not just lone wolf predators that play the market. Canadian dealers are also involved in the reverse game.
No wonder the flippers are on the case. RS6 Avant, an autobahn storms and sporadic traces toys, packs a 591 horsepower V8, quattro four-wheel drive and Audi tech in a package that increases your heart rate just when you look at it.
Which Road & Track found that Canadian dealers were among the first to stock the RS6. Some of these dealers decided to turn them over to auctions. These wagons, now technically used cars, were sent across the border to American dealers. The practice seems pretty smart – the Canadian dealers made a profit without bargaining from a customer.
Check Cars.com for used RS6 Avants and you will see a lot advertised for more than sticker. Some of these cars have so few miles that you would think the owners drove them home and immediately put them up for sale. But CarFax checks will reveal that many of these cars were first registered in Canada before ending up at a dealership in the United States. Take this beautiful example for sale in Wisconsin:
Its CarFax indicates two previous owners in Ontario despite having only 154 miles on the odometer.
Be aware that buying a new vehicle originating in Canada can lead to headaches. Although these are the same cars that you can buy here, they sometimes have VINs that do not come up in a DMV system. Some dealers will not even touch cars coming from Canada, Car and driver reports.
While Canadian retailers’ swaying RS6 Avants probably made sense at launch, it does not now. Check New box on Cars.com and you will find more new cars on around the sticker than these used ones. So there is really no reason to buy a low mileage, but still technically used, RS6 Avant which has had two or three previous owners.
