Breath of the Wild fans are trying to assemble Sidon as soon as possible

Each month, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild speedruns get a little strange. Today we have a new review category entitled “mount%”, where runners try to ride all the animals in the game. This includes common creatures, such as horses, but that also includes everyone’s favorite shark hunk, Sidon. After all, if you drive Sidon under a boss part of the open world adventure, then technically he also qualifies here.

This fun concept was developed by speedrunning extraordinaire Joedun, who has previously made headlines for things like completing BOTW at 100% ̵

1; with zero damage. In an email, Joedun explained that this was initially perceived as a Sidon-only challenge that popped into his head as he embarked on the harmless run. But, he said, it soon became clear that the only way to make it an official speedrun category recognized by society was to work out some rules. It did not take long before he decided to include all types of assembly, just to make things more interesting.

The cool thing about this speedrun category is that at the time of writing it is the only one that requires fans to do something with Lord of the Mountain. The ethereal snow-white mountain appears only under extremely specific conditions – once a day for a growing crescent. To make this work, Joedun had to find out exactly what was going on under the hood. It can appear at any time during the 24 hours of the game, and only if you are not completely in the Satori mountain region, says Joedun.

“It turns out that the length of time it spawns is also random,” he said, which is why casual gamers will sometimes see the difficult horse undressed almost immediately after seeing it. It is also the biggest “pain in the ass” during this exact cause, he said during the video.

As an added bonus, the race’s release to the public is celebrated with a friendly competition. The one who gets the fastest assembly time by May 6 will win $ 100, although second and third place will also get some money for their problems. Even better, the announcement video breaks down the current route developed by speedrunners for the category, which means that anyone who takes this on does not start from scratch. This of course includes an entire section dedicated to riding Sidon, the star attraction.

So far, Joedun has managed to complete the run in less than an hour – but hopefully others will be able to shave that time quickly enough.
